Snovember/December

Ok so i know this is supposed to be an anime blog, but its my blog so i thought meh ill have a non anime section, for my random thoughts, rants and just general posts that have nothing to do with anime, that way i dont have to create another blog, as im too lazy to run 2, i can barely cope with one, due to my unaturally impressive skill in the art of procrastination :P

so the first post of what may be many, but will probably be few, *damn you procrastination*

Snovember/December

Here in england were pretty sheltered most of the time, with rather mild winters, and so when we get hit with some snow, we breakdown as a nation and everybody starts to panic, buses stop, work places close down, and the whole nation goes into panic, i mean come on, its just a little snow right ?

Personally i love the snow ! cant get enough of it, makes everything look kinda magical, and its great fun for my niece and nephew, its so funny watching the cats play in it as its currently about twice as deep as they are tall, so they jump, then dissapear, then jump, then dissapear, very cute.

Were currently at just over 4  foot deep where i live, and we have 5 more days heavy snow predicted, so this should be interesting, if it gets much more impressive ill post some more photos, in case anybody is interested.

Happy Halloween

Hey Guys/Girls i hope your having yourself a frightening Halloween hehe…….

First we went to the cinema to enjoy a fright fest, not that i was scared at all ~_^

then i took my niece out trick or treating and got quite an impressive selection of sweets, unfortunately as she informed me that they are hers, i will not be able to enjoy them o_O

Then in a minute im of to a Halloween party where im going as a zombie, lame i know, but it was the easiest costume i could come up with, plus im looking pretty cool typing this, in zombie mode hehe,

Hope you guys/girls had an awesome Halloween

Avatar the Last Airbender Movie, watch the anime !!

Avatar the Last Airbender

I just watched the new Avatar live action movie, against my better intentions; curiosity got the better of me.

I was saddened but not completely surprised at how Hollywood can take a great Story, Platform, Characters and world then, completely lose the magic that made it enjoyable in the first place, remember Dragonball Evolution anyone?? The movie is a white washed conversion that doesn’t hold a candle to its inspiration and predecessor, it has some impressive special effects that can be enjoyed but still.

I’m sure those of you who haven’t seen the anime will think the movie is pretty good, heck I did with  Dragonball Evolution, as it was my first introduction to the Dragonball Universe, it wasn’t a good film by any means but it did peak my interest, I enjoyed the concept so I got the anime, and then realised after a second viewing of the movie, what a difference there was between the 2 and how inferior the movie truly was to its source material, the reason I’m telling you this is so that you might consider trying the anime version of Avatar as it is far superior to the Movie in my opinion.

It spans 61 episodes over 3 seasons and has several upcoming spin-offs and continuations. The base plot at a primary level is the same as the movie, yet there is so much more to it.

For those of you who haven’t seen the movie or the anime, it follows the story of Aang a 12 year old airbender who learns he is the new Avatar, the only person in his generation capable of manipulating all four elements to his will and the one tasked with maintaining peace between the Four Nations of the world. Fearful of the heavy responsibilities of being the Avatar, coupled with the coming separation from his beloved mentor Monk Gyatso (to complete his training), Aang flees from home on his animal guide, a flying bison called Appa. Caught by a fierce storm, they crash into the ocean, and Aang’s protective Avatar State freezes them in a state of suspended animation inside an iceberg. Right after his disappearance, Fire Lord Sozin, realizing that according to the Avatar cycle the next Avatar will come from the Air Nomads, launches a genocidal campaign against the Air Nomads.

Aang is Frozen within the iceberg

100 years later Aang is rescued from the iceberg by a young water-bending girl named Katara, and her older warrior brother Sokka, And with them sets of to fullfill his destiny to bring balance to the four nations and bring down Fire Lord Sozin and end his reign of terror.

The Fire Nation has taken control in Aangs absense

The upcoming miniseries called ‘The Legend of Korra’ takes place seventy years after the events of The Last Airbender.

The Legend of Korra

I’ll leave you with a selection of pictures Avatar the Last Airbender.

Comic book heroes + Anime = Fail

Iron man anime ?? why ??

This will probably be more along the lines of a rant than a post as I feel like I’ve been let down by anime o_o

So I love anime, but I’m also fond of a well animated comic book cartoon (I don’t believe that the 2 mediums have to be mutually exclusive) along the lines of Batman, Avengers etc, as long as it’s not too childish I can find some enjoyment from it, and whilst I think that anime, is superior in every way to American cartoons there are just some areas anime should probably leave alone, and these are comic book heroes, Batman, Spiderman, Superman, Iron Man etc.. They just don’t mix with anime very well in my opinion.

Leave American superheroes to the Americans as there not meant to be animetised (yes not a real word :P ) they work well in cartoon format, but lose their appeal when done in an anime style, it takes away from what they are with the contrast of styles and storytelling methodologies.

And guys/girls if you’re after a good American comic book cartoon check out the original Batman animated series, or the new DC animated movies as they are pretty dang good comic book adaptations :) and there not too childish, they are suitable for a more wider audience.

Intro Anime

Intro Anime – Pokemon, Digimon, Yu Gi Oh

I read a post somewhere, a while ago and it covered a certain person’s introduction into anime and how they became a fan, so i thought id share with you what got me into anime, where I started and how I’ve progressed through the medium.

Living in the UK had a big impact on what my first introduction to anime was, as with most children in the UK I started on my road to anime fandom with Pokémon, Love it or hate it, this was my first anime, this was before I even knew what anime was, I loved the show and me and my friends would rush home after school to catch the newest episode every week day, then came Digimon which felt a bit more grown up as the monsters were more intimidating and cooler in my eyes, and so that became my favourite for a while though I did still enjoy and watch Pokémon, I watched these 2 shows exclusively for a long time, then I came across Monster Rancher which became my next show of choice, funny how all of these contain monsters in some way isn’t it ~_^ after these shows stopped airing I was done with anime for a fair amount of time maybe a few years.

Then one day I switched the TV on early on a Saturday morning and there was a show called Yu Gi Oh and I instantly loved it, along with Beyblade (though to a lesser extent) that followed its timeslot, i watched these for years every week on a Saturday, I even watched them when I got my first job at a warehouse I’d time my lunch break to be at the same time as Yu Gi Oh and I’d go into the cafeteria, and I’d change the channel ^_^ much to the dismay of the 300, 50 year old warehouse pickers :P . after a while the pickers started to watch it of their own free will :P , id go in and there was no longer news on at dinner time but a kids show Yu Gi Oh, I think this is because anime can act as an escape from reality for certain people, myself included.

It was a few more years after this had finished airing, until I got back into anime, and got into it seriously, when I was introduced to movies like Ghost in the Shell, Vampire Hunter D and the like, then I tried shows like Naruto and Bleach (all time fave anime) and since then have progressed onto many anime over the years in a whole selection of genres, and then for me it was a natural progression from anime into manga and now I am an avid fan of both mediums.

I’d be interested in knowing how you got into anime :) , if you feel like sharing, feel free to use the comments section below to tell us how you got into anime.

Top 10 Long Anime Shows

Top 10 Long Running Anime Shows.

I love getting into anime shows, but for the most part they just aren’t long enough, 12 episodes leaves no time for character development, 26 episodes always seem to rush the ending into the last 2 episodes, where 50 episodes or longer seem to be paced pretty well, yes they can drag a little in parts but they have time to give you back information into all the characters you’ve really started to get attached to.

So here’s a list of the long anime shows I’ve come across and been able to find and watched , they run long enough for you to really sink your teeth into ^_^.

1.       Get  Backers – 49 episodes completed

2.       Rurouni Kenshin – 95 episodes completed

3.       Naruto- 220 episodes completed – followed by Naruto Shippuden

4.       Naruto Shippuden –  178 episodes, Currently ongoing

5.       Bleach – 289 episodes, Currently ongoing

6.       Saiyuki / Saiyuki Reload / Saiyuki GunLock – 50, 25, and 26 episodes respectively.

7.       Yu Yu Hakusho – 112 episodes, Completed

8.       Dragonball Z –  291 episodes, Completed

9.       One Piece -  467 episodes, Currently ongoing

10.   Fullmetal Alchemist / Brotherhood – 51 episodes, 64 episodes respectively.

Ok so I said the top 10 but I have to give a special mention to Detective Conan, with its mass amount of episodes.

11.   Detective Conan – 589 episodes, Currently ongoing
